City and Country is a co-educational school for children ages two–13 (Groups 2s–13s). Founded in
1914 by pioneer educator Caroline Pratt, C&C is one of the original and most celebrated progressive
schools in the country.
The School is located in Greenwich Village in Manhattan, on a landmark block on West 13th
Street. Housed in seven brownstones, including the adjacent courtyards, City and Country
enjoys a lovely campus with abundant outdoor space, character, and natural light.
Students typically enter C&C in the 2s, 3s, and 5s, although we accept applications at all other age groups on a rolling basis. There are currently two or three groups at each age level, with the average class size of 16 children (fewer in the youngest groups). The teacher to child ratio ranges from 6:1 (IIs) to 15:1 (XIIIs).
We seek to create groups that are balanced in terms of gender, age, learning styles, and diversity. Families come to us from all boroughs of New York City, as well as from New Jersey and Westchester. We welcome a range of applicants and look forward to meeting you and to sharing City and Country with you.
